ASTERION

A complex service explained in one hard sentence

A materials firm, spread out over specialized product and research and development couldn't articulate its broad value and was losing traction to semantic inconsistency. With one simple sharp proposition - understanding why materials fail - papers, site and research were made readable and 65% more authoritative.

WORK STRUCTURED AROUND HARD QUESTIONS...

Most agencies see a logo and a color palette. They optimize for appearance. They deliver decoration. A company is not a lifestyle brand. Your value is not a vibe. It is a hard-won, deeply layered expertise that took decades to build. When an agency reduces that to a slick visual trend, they strip away your authority. They make you look like everyone else.

‍

The standard process starts with a mood board, not a question. It prioritizes how things look over what they mean. For a consumer product, this can mean a slow erosion of credibility. Your website becomes a collection of pretty pages, not a coherent system of knowledge.

‍

Search engines compound the problem. They do not reward beauty. They reward structure. A site built on aesthetics alone is invisible to the machines that connect you to your next client. Google cannot admire your gradient. It can only parse your schema. Without a semantic foundation, your expertise is buried under a million better-structured competitors. You are losing not because your work is inferior, but because your signal is noise.

‍

We solve this by starting where agencies stop. We begin with the hard question of what you actually know. We excavate the core narrative that makes your company indispensable. Then we build a digital architecture that makes that narrative readable to both a customer and a search crawler. The result is not a decorated brochure. It is a durable, high-clarity system that proves your authority before a single pixel is admired.

The institute possessed a rich ecosystem of courses, editorial articles, media assets, yet its digital presence failed to reflect the meticulous nature of high-touch service.

The site operated as a disjointed educational directory where valuable content was siloed, obscuring the institution’s promise: a dedication to detail and care. Without a cohesive visual hierarchy or unified content flow, the platform struggled to translate prestige and nuance of physical training into a digital experience, leaving visitors with a fragmented view of their offering.

To bridge this gap, the interface was re-architected to treat screen design as an extension of hospitality itself. By harmonising course discovery, insights and media under a structured layout with visual pacing, the site now delivers a fluid, narrative-driven journey.

This shift elevated the digital presence from a standard course catalogue into an immersive, authoritative brand platform, articulating the college's broader educational ecosystem and capturing visitor interest through refined storytelling, while demonstrating a commitment to precision at every touchpoint.

Hospitality lives in the details, and that principle shaped the design framework. Granta's diplomas, articles and media now share one adaptable UI, built for clarity, visual harmony and an intuitive flow from one to the next.

The result is a single platform where structure and polish work together to reflect the college's core promise: meticulous care at every touchpoint.

What was wrong?
‍

Despite delivering high-impact training, the brand suffered a lack of narrative continuity across the web. The existing site relied on conventional, course listings, failing to connect internal capability with external validation.

By isolating outcomes within basic testimonial blocks, the company missed an opportunity to leverage authoritative external profiles - eg Wikipedia entries and LinkedIn achievements, reinforcing real-world credibility. This disconnect made it difficult for clients to gauge the scale and weight of the offering.

The digital strategy was pivoted, in order to center the user experience entirely around human success stories and interconnected brand authority.

By engineering a UI that embeds personal journeys into the visual rhythm - and actively bridges on-site case studies with external proof points on LinkedIn and Wikipedia - the layout creates a multi-touchpoint ecosystem of trust.

This shifted the perception of the business from a service provider to an industry authority.

In training, trust is earned through outcomes, and outcomes are best told through people. Those stories became the connecting thread of the design: each offering, from change management to one-to-one mentoring and business continuity, links to the people it has helped and the external profiles that confirm their success.

The result is one consistent account of Velocity's impact, whether a prospect meets it on the site, on LinkedIn or on Wikipedia.

WHAT WAS WRONG?
‍

Spanning multiple specialized verticals across R&D, and product lines, Asterion was losing commercial traction due to semantic fragmentation.

The breadth of their technical capability was buried under fragmented terminology and dense, unoptimized documentation.

Unable to clearly articulate their value proposition, the brand struggled to communicate complex engineering concepts to dms, diluting subject-matter expertise and slowing market adoption.

What changed & became possible?
‍

The entire digital architecture was restructured around a single proposition: understanding why materials fail. The design introduced stark typographic contrast, scannable data comparison matrices, and modular case study blocks that turn complex material science into a readable, highly structured UI.

Grounding the platform in semantic clarity and clear information hierarchy increased the authority and readability of their site, papers. This systematic layout allows clients to digest complex data, turning raw R&D to a clear, decisive market advantage.

ASTERION CASE-STUDY

Interpretation → Taxonomy → Ontology → Manifestation → Connectivity → Persistence
Text comparing three interpretations of Asterion Materials: Commodity - industrial coating and spray-painting services, missing advanced materials and R&D context; Specialist - ceramic composite coatings for demanding engineering applications, partially representing broader research and expertise; Authority - advanced materials engineering company specialising in ceramic composite coatings, contract R&D and technology licensing.

Interpretation: The problem

Asterion spans several specialised verticals across R&D and product lines. Each part of the business described itself differently, so search engines and AI models assembled a different Asterion depending on where they looked.

The information wasn't missing or wrong. There wasn't enough structure for a machine to interpret it, and commercial traction suffered.

Asterion needed to be understood through its capabilities, intellectual property and relationships, not just the products it ships.

Asterion Materials semantic worksheet illustrating a taxonomy of interpretation with six categories: 1. Category - Advanced Materials & Surface Technology Firm, 2. Category - Surface Finishing & Specialty Chemistry, 3. Capability - Surface Finishing & Specialty Chemistry, 3. Application - Industrial & High-Tech Manufacturing, 4. Evidence - Technical Documentation & Data Sheets, 5. Relationship - OEM Partnerships & Industry Associations, and 6. Authority - External Verification Signals. Each category includes a brief description of its scope or question answered.

Taxonomy: The Semantic Report

We audited how Asterion was being read, and found competing descriptions of what it actually does. Then we rebuilt its identity from six questions:

Category: What kind of organisation is it?
Capability: What does it actually do?
Application: Where is that capability applied?
Evidence: What demonstrates it?
Relationship: Who and what is it connected to?
Authority: Why should it be trusted?

The answers formed the diagnostic: one agreed account of Asterion, checked against the external signals that corroborate it.

Flowchart illustrating the relationship between a problem and solution in technology, focusing on wear, corrosion, and wear resistance. It shows your problem (wear, corrosion, heat), Asterion technology (PVD, CVD, thermal spray), your component (turbine blades, environment), new capability (longer life, higher limits), and evidence (tests, case studies) feeding into technology (PVD, CVD, spray). Technology addresses the problem (wear, corrosion) with capability (wear resistance), serving industry sectors and applications (turbine blades). The solution (CC-400, HP-9) is developed through R&D lab programmes, validated by test methods (standards, rigs) and supported by evidence (results, reports) backing the claim (stated results). The chart uses color coding to distinguish domain words, Asterion offers, and proof layers.

Ontology → Manifestation: The Structural Report

A company is not a collection of pages. It is a network of relationships.

The Structural Report mapped Asterion's: which teams hold which expertise, which services draw on it, and which projects prove it. That map translates directly into the CMS, its collections, fields and references, so editors can't enter data that breaks the logic.

A reader on a Service page can click through to the Expertise behind it, then to the Case Studies that prove it. Change a relationship once and it updates everywhere it appears.

Diagram showing Asterion brand and product line branching into four categories: Materials (compounds), Properties (characteristics), Industries (sectors served), and Services (offerings), all linked to a content layer that connects to Case studies (proof in practice), Documents (specs & data), Relations (cross-entity links), and Semantics (shared vocabulary).

Connectivity: Schema

Search engines and LLMs recognise entities, not just keywords. Schema markup expresses the CMS relationships in machine-readable form, signalling clearly who Asterion is, what it does, and who it serves.

A JSON-LD structured data snippet defining a corporation named Asterion, also known as Asterion Materials, specializing in advanced coatings including polymers, oxide, and enamel coatings. The data includes the company's website URL, logo URL, industries (Aerospace, Sub-aqua, Industrial Manufacturing), and a sub-organization called Asterion R&D Division focused on innovative coating technologies. It lists offers for products: Polymer Coatings, Oxide Coatings, and Enamel Coatings.

Persistence: One node in a larger system

The website becomes one node in a larger information system.

A single source of truth sits underneath. The CMS expresses the relationships internally, and Schema expresses them externally.

When Asterion adds a product line, it slots into the existing structure instead of forcing a reorganisation. The aim isn't to rank once. It's to stay legible to every system that interprets the organisation.

Text reading 'FORANT Thread' with the letter M stylized as a green electrocardiogram line between 'FOR' and 'ANT' on a black background.

Is your organisation being read correctly?

Most specialist companies have the same problem Asterion had. The expertise is real, but it's scattered across pages, product lines and teams that describe it differently.

Three questions to start with:
Would a stranger describe what you do the way you would?
Do your services, expertise and proof link to each other, or sit in separate silos?
When you add something new, does your site absorb it or need rebuilding?

If any answer gives you pause, that's where we begin.
